Diary of 20190715

A day should begin with harder tasks, not easier ones.

What I did today

  • Recited a few English words, about 50?
  • Had a delicious breakfast(a cup of coffee, a piece of bread with meat and egg and vegetables. it costs 16 RMB)
  • Drove to the company(I listened to the NCE3 at the same time).
  • Optimize information in the Anki
  • Checked the progress about tasks with my colleagues
  • Solved a problem about SVN
  • Did something, but I forgot
  • Had a lunch(vegetables, chicken)
  • Optimize data in the Anki again
  • Thought about the judging algorithm of CPUs and APIs of components
  • Discussed some obstacles in the progress about the infrastructure of components
  • Discussed some problems of UIs of IFIND
  • Read the design principles of data visualization
  • Checked whether the progress of network-graph of Arsenal is normal(the progress is worse than I expect)
  • Discussed the purpose of the upgrade of F10
  • Write the diary

What’s your problem?

This sentence comes from Robin Li, the boss of Baidu. He was watered by a man during a famous annual meeting about AI.

Why I write it here? Because it is such an important thing in our work and life.

Today, a product manager came to ask me for help. He got a task to upgrade a product. He thought the new UI from the designer was not as good as he expected. He wanted us give him some better designs.

But what is the main purpose of this upgrade? Can a better UI reach this purpose? He couldn’t give the answers. You see, even himself didn’t know the meaning of this task. If we do as he said, we probably get a waste of time.

So when we get a new task, we should ask the product manager a question at the very beginning:

What’s your problem?

What’s the purpose of this task? How could we reach that? We must make it clear.

What did I feel today?

There is something wrong with my family. That’s a real downer. I have no idea how to solve it.

I have gotten some awesome methods about learning English, this may be the only good message today.

Not very bad. Tomorrow will be a new day.
